  • During a 2020 Burg walkabout tasting, so only brief impressions. The vintage showed very well indeed for both reds and whites. The reds were dense, fresh with good structure like the 2016, the whites pure with good fruit core similar to 2019 and definitely more refined than the plush 2018. TN: The four Levlaive entry level wines showed really well in this tasting and outshined much more heralded terroirs. With the classic Puligny 1er and Grand Cru wines of Leflaive being out of reach for most customers it is terrific news that the Domaine has ventured into new terrois. All wines are elegant, complex, precise, fresh with good fruit core. Today the Marcon-Verze (92) was wonderfully mineral and a pleasure to dink, the Macon-Verze Les Chenes (92), similar but much more closed and hard to judge, give it time. The Rully (90) was the lightest, good but with less complexity and the Pouilly-Fuissee (93+) really excellent, like a Cote d'Or wine, nothing like the tropical wines that usually come out of this appellation. A great line up that does not break the bank.
