Nose: Powder sugar, acacia honey, pear, green apple peel, dried banana chips. Behind that some sulfur and some oxidized or used-socks note, but very soft. From that I conclude there must be a small amount of ex-sherry maturation in here. Overall light, fresh and pure. Palate: An unexpectedly hot arrival, but otherwise extension of the nose. Pear, cotton candy, acacia honey, in the middle malty, and in the finish some orange peel, a subtle bitterness from the oak.
I find the Dalwhinnie 15, going in a very similar direction, better, even for the slightly higher price.
I am also somewhat tired of ex-bourbon dominated whisky with this sweetish pear note. It gives me a somewhat regressive feeling which I explain in the video below. In this price range, if you are like me and prefer some wine cask influence, I would definitely recommend the Bowmore 12 instead. But this Arran is a good example for why excellent qpr doesn't mean I would buy it. No matter how excellent the qpr, I wouldn't want to regularly put the alcohol in my body for this taste experience even if it was for free. Again: not because it isn't very good quality for the price, but I don't want to drink whisky on that level at all because this alcoholic candy isn't worth the health risk.
Objective rating: 89 Subjective rating: 88.
Here is a little video on this in which I misuse the occasion of tasting this whisky for something of way greater importance !

Grassy, somewhat sweet malty nose, heathery with barely a hint of peat, almost coastal at moments. Nice but not particularly impressive, not one I would buy.

A miniature if this. High quality malt. Real vigour and intensity. Shows just a bit too much wood on the finish for my palate.
