Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 91.8 points

  • My previous tasting notes over the last five years showed this selection coming of age and opening up with more fruit as it matured. This presented big pronounced and lively fruits of currant and berry flavors accented by nicely integrated oak before giving way to hints of cedar, leather and tobacco. Dark garnet colored, moderately firm with refined lingering tannins, this '97 still is vibrant and has several years of pleasurable easy drinking left.

  • Poured a medium brick color. Powerful, aged bouquet of licorice, mint, black cherry, mineral, eucalyptus, and tobacco. Easy, round tannins with decent balance, and flavors of leather, acid, red fruit skin, light spice and mineral oil. Has held up well.

  • Currant and berry fruit flavors give way to integrated oak and hint of cedar. Moderately firm but refined tannins. More structure and more flavorful than the 1998 which we've been drinking. The 98 was drinking better earlier and the 97 is now coming of age. Even more fruit than last tasting.
