Dinner after Krug masterclass (Tian Tian Seafood): Blind, impression. Plum, blueberries with slight capsicum notes. Elegant and balance on the palate. Guess this as Cab Franc due to greenness, on hind sight, it is due to the growing conditions in Japan where it is a little hard to ripen the grapes.

I didn’t take any notes, but what was truly memorable was the texture of this wine. It was like drinking liquid silk. Unbelievable. You couldn’t imagine the look on my face when I saw it was Merlot. One of the rare wines that I would gladly pay market for. Just crazy.

Long session at Wimborne. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance mildly cloudy, purplish ruby colour. Legs. Nose pronounced intensity, with aromas of dark floral violets, sauerkraut, purple beetroot. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, low alcohol (12%), medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark violets, spicy florals, dark red berries, wild blackberries, red cherries, purple beetroot, salty sauerkraut. Long finish. Very good quality. Most aromatic 100% Merlot I have tried before. Very unique style. Could develop I suppose, but I ain't banking on this making old bones more than 5+ years.

100% Merlot. Destemmed by hand so the individual grapes remain whole, then placed in stainless steel for fermentation for about 2 weeks. 1 year aging in oak (roughly 15% new oak).
“Fruit ripeness really shines in the 100% Merlot cuvée. The scent of sandalwood and violets prefaces a delicious mouthful of rich blackcurrant juice. Silky in texture with super-fine tannins, it is truly spellbinding.”
