Gewürtzraminer usually produces very flamboyant, somewhat exhibitionistic wines with outspoken aromas of lychees and zest of grapefruit and oranges. This is one of the least extreme and most restrained examples I tasted until now. The typical characteristics of the grape are present but in a very balanced way: delicious and not excessive bouquet and on the palate ripe peaches, lychees, citrus fruit quite a bit of residual sugar (honey) just sufficient acidity and a medium long voluptuous aftertaste. These wines are generally not easy to combine with food and this one would indeed work very well as a dessert wine, but tonight this was also a heavenly match for our personal version of “Flemish Waterzooi” (chicken poached in a vegetable stock and served in a creamy sauce). At 18,00€ this is a fantastic value.
