  • Very nice Bourgueil and very smooth from opening for dinner. While a trait of Bourgueil is often an earthiness this had none of that. We both thought this a very good Bourgueil.

  • The wine opened up nicely over the course of pizza mundo, very nice cab franc, yum.

  • Lovely, restrained, integrated. Represents the Loire valley and Cabernet Franc so well. Out of the bottle dark dark deep red, lovely legs, tight nose. First taste nothing wrong, yet nothing right. Over time a perfumed green - bell peppers, fresh mown grass, sweet temperament. Continuing, round, sensuous, reserved. As time progressed it reveals a sophistication, a seriousness. It looks beautiful in the glass. After 20+ minutes it begins to embody it’s role. Fine delicate cab franc. Some time has passed as it finds itself. The nose opens as the green peppers take a back seat to a more subtle, vegetal expression. The palate opens too. It’s more integrated though the back palate reveals some acidity. It keeps getting better and better. A blooming flower evolving. Just superb. Acid and fruit and tannins begin to complement nicely with the fruit taking a back seat. Might this change? I think so. At 13.5% (nice) there’s room to experiment. Grren pepoers again, the length of this critique is a testament to the character of this wine. For me, not a quaffer. It maintains its elegance in the glass as it reveals yet more. This is a sophisticated wine, flirting then not, teasing then stopping. I think it has some bottle life - 4+ years? The beauty is still hiding but the love is there. Right now, you will be challenged, in 2027 you’ll be delighted. Let it breathe for at least 30 minutes. Oh pork chop, roasted potato, sautéed cabbage and onion, flamed with Portuguese vino verde. It keeps getting better. Long elegant reveal. Think “in A Silent Way” by Miles. (And Joe Zawinul)

    Day 2:
After 20 hours under native cork in a dark corner of my kitchen.
The wine has found it’s place with a lovely compliment of flavors- aside from the grassy herbaceous character of Cab Franc, there is a touch of cranberry, dark red cherry and the green bell peppers dominating, the tannins are a bit more present exhibiting a consistent texture of fine to medium grit sandpaper. A lovely bottle on the second day. A big win.

  • Pop and poured. This wine is such a beautiful quaffer... I even said to my wife, "If this is $13 it's a rebuy... at $16 perhaps it's just average." It's a bargain at $13 for Bourgueil, and at $16 you're getting into some more serious juice from the region... such is the nature of this insane bargain region. I am so pleased with this wine for a Tuesday night. The aromas are all bright and red fruited including red currant, and more on the briar fruit spectrum; this is beautifully balanced with lovely soil tones, wet stone, and a hike on a mountain ridge in the summer. Palate entry is soft and smooth, and pretty light in body but beautifully balanced for what it presents... high toned red fruits, some acid building, and tannins present as well. Very fresh wine on the finish as well, with bright red fruits and high tone acidity. Just an absolutely perfect quaffer that pairs beautifully with most foods due to the acidity. 90 for the pure pleasure of this wine with absolutely nothing out of balance or lacking, though it's not getting better from here. This is a drink now Bourgueil.
