A bit of as disappointment now. Now it has lost much of its structure. Still lots of fruit left but a bit like boiled jam and missing the tannins to back it up.

Nose: plum kool-aid, fake fruit undertone, Taste: plum cola with wood trhough midpalate, got juicier with air, did not rate but not recommended unless you like that fakey fruit hot Aussie Shiraz

(NASHWAUK Shiraz MV) Nashwauk Dear Friends, With the imminent release of the Wine Advocate’s Australian review, there are a few things I think you may want to take a close look at before they are gone, specifically a new entrant that is making a lot of noise on the inside circle - Nashwauk. We were the first retailer in the US to offer Mitolo, Amon-Ra, Tatiarra, Two Hands, Massena, Mr Riggs and a host of other wines that nobody cared about until their fateful date with Bob and Nashwauk is headed down the same path (although Bob is not reviewing them anymore). In this case, the wines are so limited that I’m not even sure a major US saturation is possible. Consumer-focused and set to make wines that reflect their place and climate, this new winery should be a household name come next week. NASHWAUK is the pet project of Reid Bosward and the Kaesler family (Old Bastard) but instead of the Barossa, they became intrigued with cooler-toned McLaren Vale fruit from a one of a kind site overlooking the Fleurie Peninsula and the ocean rocks that the ship Nashwauk ran into before it sank in 1855. This area looks more like the Duero or Cote Rotie with very steep, terraced vineyards that demand hand-pruning and picking. The soil is very poor and rocky, which forces the vines to dig into the iron-rich soil to a depth of nearly 100 meters. Each vine gives a small amount of very concentrated fruit and the yields from the entire site are among the lowest in the region. If there could be an opposite of young-vine, valley floor, irrigated vines - this is it. This vineyard used to be a primary source for one of the McLaren Vale’s most desirable wines and the fruit was among the most expensive. The Kaesler family knew about this and when the entire terraced site became available for purchase, they didn’t hesitate. This is a place with personality and vintage character, influenced by the sea, that gives a different twist on the tried and true. Big wines? Huge. High Alcohol? Yes. Are they just oak and glop? No way - this site is producing wine with a character all its own and I’m sure others will agree... As an introduction, we have (what I feel) are the two top wines from the estate, the Nashwauk Shiraz McLaren Vale and the (ship)Wrecked Shiraz. Both are EXTREMELY LIMITED and very fairly priced for the level they are playing in (and both have a chance to increase in value)... 2006 Nashwauk Shiraz “McLaren Vale” (no new oak is used in this huge cuvee - will open many eyes - only 100 cases for the US) 2006 Nashwauk Shiraz (ship)”Wrecked” (partial new oak and a massive presence in this cuvee - look for interesting accolades - only 40 cases for the entire US, including restaurants) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Aus7530 Aus7520

Started out very blueberry jammy out of the bottle. Over time, chocolate notes and soft tannins appeared.
