Riper/oakier style than their Holus Bolus wines - but also a cooler climate site, so I guess it evens out. Over ripe black cherries, over ripe blueberries, over ripe strawberries, earth, smoke, fresh cracked black pepper and olive tapande on the nose. The palate adds more secondary flavors - vanilla, tobacco and cedar wood as well as some bacon grease; but it finishes with the ripe fruits. Structurally linear, texturally velvety.
Medium + body with medium acid and medium - tannin. Good fruity finish. Big and rich considering the producer; though restrained and cool climate compared to some other Central Coast Syrahs. Overall, it's well balanced. May as well drink it now, it's quite delicious. I could see it being nice with some more tertiary notes though, so if you wanted to hold it for 2-3 more years, go ahead. Somehow I don't see it being as long lived as their Holus Bolus Syrahs though.

A bit more restrained than their other bottlings, but still damn good. Very savory to begin, but over a couple of hours, the deep red fruits start to hit (especially on the nose), still buttressed by the briny olive and white pepper. Really like what they do at Holus Bolus/Joy Fantastic.

This is an intensely savory Syrah. It’s all about meat, earth, smoke, and soy - umami from every direction. It has an underlying depth of richness that conveys California warmth, but not in terms of exuberant fruit. Even on night two he fruit remains hidden behind a wall of savory flavors and well managed tannins. I kept expecting the next sip to show more obvious fruit, but it kept pushing the savory. Loved the intensity, and that it didn’t push through with a high acid profile. It was just really surprising, bringing a style/profile that I would never have expected.

Raspberry, blueberry compote, black pepper, with ripe bright neon fruit. Medium/medium plus body.Medium/medium plus acid. Medium tannins, that become a little more chewy with each step.
