  • 2020 "Scheu Aber Wild", from @gunthersteinmetz and @weltnerpaulweingut A most unusual Scheurebe. Successfully walks the fine line between interesting and too much. Full and round. Grapefruit pith and pear. Citrus finish. It was an aperitif on night one before eating pasta alla Norma prepared by @LukeIntoWine. Tonight it's a cooler for the 84° F temps and doing a fine job.

  • A collaboration between Paul Weltner and Stefan Steinmetz. Steinmetz made the wine from Weltner's scheurebe grapes using extended skin contact in a natural way with small amoinrs of sulfur. Now 45 min after opening. Lovely aromas of ginger, woody bark, apricots, pears and some minerals. Palate w ripe apricots, a hit of Meyer lemon, unripe pears, ginger, a bit of woody bark. Mild+ tannins come up on midpalate. Excellent acids. Short finish of ginger, medicinal bark, apricots, and pears. Clean w no "natty" character. Not the most complex but so interesting and delicious. Lots of delicious character here. Hits both the cerebral and hedonistic sides. Stood up to a spicy Ethiopian lamb tibs.

  • A super cool collaboration between Stefan Steinmetz and Paul Weltner, this Scheurebe is wild, leaning towards natural, and beautiful.
Though this wine is technically dry, the exotic fruit character adds tons of depth, richness and fun. The absolutely fantastic nose is perfumed and floral making it hard to pull your nose away from the glass.
The palate is like pear cider that was infused with ginger. The fruit is ripe, but there is a great drying note and texture that I am sure comes from the extended macerated skin contact.
Such a fun wine made by two friends living and working from different regions and coming together to do something different and delicious.
