  • Basically what the previous note says. This is decent but lacks some complexity and fruit to really impress. Honestly this wine indicates a lack of skill in the vineyard, the fruit profile is slightly unripe and unbalanced, but even so there are petroleum notes from sun damaged grapes. At least there was no cork taint on this one.

    No rush to drink up.

  • Lemons and lime that's about it. Okay now to be fair it has nice minerality as well, but it feels really bare-bones to me. For me it's lacking some fruit and body to make it more complex. At the end of the evening it was almost like I was coming home from a Riesling tasting. That's how high the acidity is. Almost felt like somebody squished a few extra lemons above the bottle to top it off. It's a shame since some elements for success are here, like the minerality and finish. Not a bad wine to drink just not enough complex for me to score it higher or really recommend it at this price point.

  • The tasting notes below clearly show that this is a wine which divides opinion and I must say that I am on the fence myself. I really like the cool and stony style, and I am pretty tolerant to tart acidity, but there is a clear lack of stuffing here, of ripe Riesling fruit. The aromas deliver a classical Saar Riesling expression, but the whole thing feels a bit hollow and underripe. I agree with Viniferatu that this should be drunk young - prolonged ageing will turn it into a skeleton. What little fruit is there will fade, but the acidity will not soften.

2021 in Falkenstein's hands, in all their mashed-up glory right here! Beautiful aromatics, typical of a crisp Mosel Riesling. Rip-roarin' acidity on the palate --- not for the faint of heart! If you find yourself often praising "balance" in wine, or complaining about wines that are too acidic to be "well-balanced," then just do yourself, and everyone else, a favor and stay away from this wine. On the other hand, if you like dry Riesling with high acidity and a healthy dose of fruit flavor, then seek this one out. For my preferences, this is well into Excellent territory.

  • Coravin. Pale greenish color; aromatic, minerality, slate, green apple; medium bodied but with vibrant acidity throughout, 10.5% alcohol, superb dry extract, lemon-lime, minerality throughout; long finish. Really superb trocken riesling. 93+
