Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • 16% alcohol, ouch!. G 50%, Mrvdr 50%. The cork is average at best, both in length and in quality. Dark colour with limited thinning at the edge.
Rich dark fruited nose, with lightly stewed fruit and a fair bit of liveliness (thanks to the Mourvèdre maybe). The mouth is extraordinarily rich with good complexity and excellent length; in spite of its huge scale, this bottle achieves a credible balance, including creditable grip, albeit at the extreme end of the richness scale.
A perilous exercise and a guilty pleasure not to be repeated too often, but undeniably a success. This wine would show the door to a good many Chateauneufs.
A problem that I have with this kind of wine is that they are no good the next day, yet they are a bit too rich to finish on the day, ah well...
