  • WOW! Pronounced intensity of complex ripe citrus, stone fruit , orange peel and honey blossom. Really nice backbone of minerality. High juicy acidity , light bodied with 7.5% abv and 70 grams of residual sugar. Moderate + finish. Delicate , pretty, and INTENSE. What a lovely wine showing great typicity of Mosel Spatlese. Drinking beautiful now and has a long life ahead of it.

  • I have drunk some nice wines in the past. But I cannot remember ever feeling this much joy from a bottle of wine (in this case a half bottle). I do not have the verbal skill to describe this wine. Others say this wine will improve over the next decade or two. I have two full and one half bottle remaining. It will take all of my willpower to spread them out over the next two years. Sorry this review is not more helpful. But 97 points. What more can I say?

The 2021 Marienburg Spätlese Goldkapsel is a beautiful Mosel Riesling. Already in the bouquet, it shows liveliness, smoothness and a fullness of fruit that comes across precisely and clearly. The wine is reminiscent of oranges and orange peel, grapefruit, yellow plums and pears. The fruit is accompanied by slightly smoky notes, some pencil shavings and stone with a top note of white flowers.

On the palate, the interplay of sweetness and acidity, fruit and spice creates excitement. This is a picture book gold capsule with a stimulating acidity and saltiness. The fruit oscillates between fresh and refreshing, slightly tart citrus and stone fruit as well as some tropical notes. In addition, there is a clear slate note and a noticeable creaminess. The Marienburg Spätlese Goldkapsel is remarkably complex and at the same time offers such an immense drinking flow that you only ever want more of it. But watch out! The wine has potential for decades.
