  • Deep dark cherry red color. Smoke, vanilla, bacon, blackberry aromatics. On the palate the aromatics replays, added with a hint of licorice, dark berries, somewhat drying tannins. It’s fairly balanced, medium length, medium intense, not quite complex, but not simple. In some ways the tannins are worthy of high quality burgundy - I’m just personally not so much into its woody style of smoke, vanilla and drying tannins. I’m missing Hermitage grape taste. I taste vintage over place.

  • Popped and poured at 57 degrees F and paired with a southwest salad . Pepper , some earth, violets and blue fruits on the nose. Medium -bodied , medium acidity and medium minus tannins on the palate . Medium finish . Maybe just a tad hot (14% ABV) if I am being very picky. I have one more of these and will look forward with pleasure.

  • Way way better than the ‘17. Some reduction is still here but I think the vintage shines through. Ripe blackberry fruit, leather, intense black pepper. At first this was quite accessible, but with time (about 3 hrs of slow ox) the tannins started to show prominently. I’d bet this’ll be in the window after 10 yrs.
