Pale gold. Light florals and citrus. Round and slightly creamy on the palate. Linear apple and citrus, did not pick up any oak. Easy drinking but not very memorable.

Light colden. Very light at first but opens up on 3rd day, which means very well made. Light, clean and fresh, showing characteristic Santa Maria Valley tropical fruit. Interesting that the winery states this wine is barrel fermented, but I don't taste it. Good value yet certainly not the Qupé of old.

Bright, fresh, notes of yellow fruit, pears, citrus, and lemon oil are laced with elegant hints of toast and nutmeg. It's clean, displays impressive restraint, and it's full of exuberance and energy. Pure deliciousness.

Retail $22. Under screwcap. It has been a few vintages since I have tried the Y Block Chardonnay, a staple for the Central Coast stalwart Qupé (kyoo-pay). While it is clear that there is some oak on this wine, it is by no means an oak monster. In fact, there is plenty of fruit in this medium straw-colored wine, along with plenty of lemon-curd, ripe pear, and golden delicious apple. Really good balance and the oak seems to work well here as there is plenty of zingy acidity to hold it all together. Honestly, for the price? I doubt there are many better options.
