From an excellent (2cm) looking bottle, this wine has a deep red center with light red/orange rims. The nose was pretty good when first poured but clearly improved with air. After 3+ hours, it showed black cherries, clove, roses, brown spices, and soil.
In the mouth, this wine was refined with light tannin, solid acidity, and excellent length. This was gorgeously balanced with excellent flavor interest. Despite its refinement, it had a pungent, old vines type intensity.
This was really good. Most '64s have a somewhat stewed quality and this wine had none of that. Drink this impressive wine over the next 10 years.

Surprisingly closed-in when first opened. After decanting and traveling across town and then waiting a good hour to be the first red at a tasting: surprising deep garnet color for its age; spectacularly deep, rich nose of dark fruit with hints of brown sugar. Still has miles of life left. Just missing a bit of complexity which 10 more years would give it. Wish I had more of this to test that hypothesis!!!!
