Christmas WIMPS - Burgundy I (La Trompette, Chiswick): Nose is quite evolved, showing mushroom, some decaying sous-bois, but with underlying sweet bilberry fruit. Medium/full bodied on the palate, with notes of meat and earth, touch of decay again., soft and rich with fresh acidity carrying a very good length, harmonious finish. Slight note of soy as it warms detracts a touch, but a lovely wine and I would say pretty much at its peak. ****

Dirty dark fruit, iron, bacon, earth and faded spice. Lots of interesting qualities, but this just didn't hang together the way I wanted it to. That said, a lovely mature Burgundy.

Some Wine Tasted at the Zachys La Paulée Auction; 3/10/2022-3/11/2022 (Le Bernardin Prive - New York NY): Small pour, brief note. Meaty and earthy with classic Gevrey styling. Tannins are perfectly assimilated, everything works here, even if just barely at Grand Cru density. Very good now. I have mostly been a big fan of Ponsot 1988s.
