  • Made with Chardonnay sourced from 25-45 yo vineyards in 1er Cru Fourchaume. Fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks.

Yellow-green color. Ripe, youthful and somewhat primary nose with fruity and slightly generic aromas of pear drops, some sour apple candies, a little bit of hay and a hint of fresh white peach. The wine is dry, bright and tangy on the palate with a medium body and somewhat linear flavors of tart green apples, some primary notes of pear drops, a little bit of tangy salinity, light herby green tones, a hint of steely minerality and a candied touch of gummi bear. Nice, bright and structured acidity. The finish is fresh, dry and tangy with a quite long aftertaste of Granny Smith apple, some saline nuances, a little bit of pear drop, light steely mineral notes, a hint of chalky bitterness and a touch of herbal greenness.

A nice, but also somewhat generic and modern Chablis that shows those classic steely mineral tones, cool-climate Chardonnay fruit and brisk acidity, but at the same time feels a bit anonymous with its candied primary notes that scream modern, reductive winemaking with cool fermentation temperatures in stainless steel and - this is only a guess - perhaps some cultivated commercial yeast strains? I did enjoy the freshness and focus here and in that department the wine is pretty lovely, but the candied primary fruit character reminded me more of Italian Pinot Grigio than 1er Cru Chablis. Furthermore, there was a tiniest bit of herbal greenness there that peeked through at times, slightly adding more to distraction rather than complexity. All in all, a decent Chablis, but perhaps a bit more pedestrian than what I'd like my 1er Chablis to be. Perhaps a bit on the pricey side for the quality at 31,90€.
