  • i have been pleasantly surprised at how well many modest wines from S France age. This is not one of them. Tired, roasted, slightly oxidized, with some seriously odd funky notes (?rubber tomato). This may have been good once, or perhaps there are good bottles out there, but this one missed the mark.

  • Open for one hour. Aromas are nice, dark and rich, showing nice minerality to couple with the large scale notes, really nice baking spices (cinnamon) and molasses cookies. Really lovely and fairly uniquely enjoyable nose. Palate is rich but pure, showing a nice initial impact of acidity and ripe fruit tones. Pleasing soil and minerality is there. Quite lovely stuff and really persistent. Rich and vibrant finish. Tart acid here as well, with nice acidity. Puckering and lean. There is no hint this wine is 12 years old... I was suspecting this may be on the way out, but no way, this has another decade of enjoyment ahead of it. I'm surprised how much structure from my note in 2008 is still present. Wish I enjoyed more Languedoc wine as much as I do this. This wine made an impression on me 8 years ago and I'm sad to see my only other bottle go, but this was a fun wine then and still now.

  • Received in a Garagiste mystery box. This was fine, but not spectacular . Good acidity, lots of peppery notes. Wouldn't pay more than $25 or so for it myself, but if you like the Southern France style of syrah, this may be a good fit.

Also, it is at or past peak, don't hesitate to open.

  • Buoyant aromas of blackberries and peat, with resolved tannins and a plummy finish. Medium weight and mature - no browning at the edges and fleshing out with air, but past peak.

(JUNQUETS Dr. Parce) Junquets DEAL Dear Friends, As far as individuality in the world of Syrah, this wine pretty much takes the cake. Those of you that have cellared and followed this wine for years will be quite happy to know that 2004 has turned in a Junquets on par with the 1994 - I think David’s review says it all: We have an exceptional price on this wine (half of what it costs in France), directly from the source with perfect provenance: ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for unique style and terrific value in a wine that has become very inexpensive 2004 Domaine du Mas Blanc (Dr. Parce) Collioure “Les Junquets” Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA SOFR8940
