  • The nose of this wine is lovely, showing ripe peach, apricot, citrus, straw, hay, dried grass, white floral notes, nectarines, and melon. The mouth of this medium-bodied wine is lovely, layered, focused, and rich, showing intense acidity, saline, refreshing, orange zest, Orangina drink, tart pink grapefruit, lovely precision, mineral, hay, and tart melon, just lovely! The finish is long, tart, and somewhat ripe, showing more yellow fruit, but also incredibly well balanced and tart with more citrus, saline, lime, hay, and wet rock. Just lovely! Drink now!

  • Similar to a Riesling. Notes of lime peel, nice acid. Would pair well with spicy food.

  • It’s a mature Albariño and admittedly I tend to drink them younger. Not a lot of reference.

Appearance- clear, medium plus gold looks like apple juice.

Nose - clean, has some mustiness on it. It’s been open a few hours. Initially it smelled like horse sweat (as appealing as that is) but has evolved into more of a musky smell. Grassy, some apple smells green. Herbal. Hay.

Palate - medium plus intensity, acidity is medium plus and even more. Balanced. Finish is medium plus. Body is medium. Notes are apple and lemon. Alcohol is integrated and medium.

Admittedly have not had older Albariño though ppl have said it ages. It reminds me of a local Italian wine.

I’m not sure what “prime” is for Albariño but this is different from the ones I have tried in the past. Suspect it can hold its own with roast chicken and even pork. Maybe a little heavy for a simple fish, I had sautéed salmon tonight, though it paired nicely with the roasted vegetables. I would be curious with this wine and what else Albariño has if you wait long enough.

  • Overall, the Albarino from Rias Baixas in Spain was a bit of a disappointment for me. While the golden color was beautiful and the aroma had hints of straw, terracota pot, and wet gravel, the mouthfeel was slightly effervescent at first and the flavor was dominated by a strong alcohol taste. The tart apple and sour patch kids flavors were nice, but the bitterness and alcohol overpowering them. It's possible that the wine was past its prime, as it was nearly 3 years old, and I would like to try it when it was younger to see if my impression would change. All in all, while this wine had some good qualities, it wasn't my favorite.
