Very fruity and hot and has absolutely passed it's peak. Cherry and raisins with portlike finish. Day two smacking of dried figs. Drink up now but be prepared that it might be too late

I opened this at the end of our 12/12/10 duck dinner. Things got busy and I wasn’t able to concentrate or take good notes on this one. I did write that it had nice black cherry, plum, licorice and spice on both the nose and palate. There was also some significant heat and it was very dry.

Smell: Dense and brooding with dark fruits, earth, and faint floral tones.
Taste: Dark fruits, licorice, chewing tobacco, and cedar
Overall: An interesting wine that walks the line of power and delicate balance. A lovely full bodied wine that would pair well with any hearty red meat dish. It has taken about 6 hours to really open up into something special...but given the time to blossom it really does shine.

I had intended to let this one sit a little longer, but due to a recent move my cellar is in disarray. Which is a long way to say I was pleasently surprised this time by this wine. Still needs time to breathe and I would like to see what more time in the cellar would bring, however, this was a pleasant wine with some herbal hints but a greater showing of fruit and a little earth.
