Lesser Italian White Varietals (Duchman Family Winery Driftwood, Texas): How about “old, dried juicy fruit gum?” As good a description as many. A fairly acidic wine, the fruit on this goes on and on, the finish is good. Cloudy and caramel, with pronounced nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamon, and baked spice flavors, this wine was yummy for some and started to dry out and become one-dimensional for others. The grape for this wine is actually labeled Malvasia Istriana. The Malvasia grape is of Greek origin and was brought to nearby Istria and adapted well to the Carsic territory.

Slightly cloudy. Slightly balsam nose. Definite sherry-to-retsina like edge to this wine. Some grapefruit and orange peel but 2ndary to retsina-esque qualities. Not harmonious. Did pair well with Middle Eastern fare, but I was not enthused about this wine.

(Zidarich Carso Malvasia Istriana) Medium lemon yellow color with slight cloudiness and clear meniscus; intriguing, focused, ripe grapefruit, smoke, baked lime and mint nose; tight, ripe lime, clementine, mineral, tart orange palate, needs a few years; medium-plus finish
(Zidarich Malvasia) Slightly orange-colored with lovely nose of sea salt, mineral, some light kiwi and pineapple fruit. Wonderful floral quality. The palate was clean and pure tasting with rocky minerality and excellent, pure, clean, vivid fruit. Drinking great now but I am sure would be much more interesting in five years.

A weird bottle of this; not as good as previous bottles. More tart and not pleasurable on its own.

Just very good...expected a little more complexity.
