  • The best old cork I've ever seen. Nose of sawn cedar, currants, sarsaparilla, like ribena and root beer spilled in a sauna. Palate has become a little diffuse but still shows some black cherry sweetness, cocoa, and a touch of acidity especially on the finish. Magnificent for what it is.

  • Capsule and cork were perfect from the top. On cork pull, though, this was initially all acetone and vinegar. Thankfully that appeared to have all been in the head space and the wine showed no such thing.

Bright red, no bricking. This opened up marvellously and went very well with lamb chops. Pendroncelli makes great stuff!

  • Pulling the capsule off it disintegrated around the top where it looked like the wine came up through the cork and stuck to the capsule, had to scrape the rest of the foil off with a knife. The cork got about 2 thirds of it out before the bottom 1/3 broke off and had to be pushed into the bottle. I was not expecting much at this point. Now when I poured it through the filter into the decanter I was hit with the smell of deep blackberry and cassis?, the color has not faded or bricked at all??? it looks like it is 5 years old. The taste is stunning deep blackberry/cherry/cassis with hints of leather and earth. Even had a bit of tannic grip and medium acid. Did not fade at all for the 2 hours it took for my wife and I to finish it, fantastic bottle of Cabernet that maybe cost $2 on release? Wow

  • Sauteed mushrooms with a little black currant; a bit flat and earthy in the mouth, with sour notes; this was over, but still had something interesting to give.
