  • Burgundy from the appellation of Chambolle-Musigny, based in the southern part of cote de nuits. Musigny is known for wines with heft balanced by striking perfume and flavor, and this wine is no different. 13.5% ABV and not mevushal.
Appearance was medium depth, cherry red color with medium viscosity.
Nose was of moderate intensity, red fruits, floral, and spice, almost velvety in the nose. Plum sauce, cranberry, black cherry, rose petals and potpourri, anise, dried leaves, cloves, incense, vanilla. Exquisite.
Palate was medium bodied, elegant with lots of finesse, plus acidity, earthy with juicy/sour fruits, and moderate and structured tannins. Cranberries, red currants, sour raspberry, mushrooms, soy sauce, cream, lots of saline and mineral notes, loamy dirt, and cola. Long acidic finish of juicy red berries, more saline, Dutch cocoa.
Should age for a long time, but is extremely approachable now and exquisite in its youth. 93.

  • Beautiful Violet purple color. Explosive bouquet. Tents and concentrated with ripe Berry fruits. There are tannins and for aging but right now fruit is hiding them. Ripe. Great mouthfeel. Delicious. Can drink with enjoyment now until it shuts down. Likely best from 2028 to 2035

  • Domaine du Château Philippe-le-Hardi, Chambolle-Musigny, 2020: Deep ruby towards royal purple, with on the slightly ethereal nose, dried flowers, crushed ripe strawberries and raspberries, black cherries, wild blueberries, anis, smoke, and tea leaves. Medium, perhaps medium to full-bodied, with good intensity. On the palate, notes of juicy ripe red berries, red currants, and pomegranate seeds, black licorice, followed on the mid-palate by earthy, mineral, and saline notes of dirt and crushed rocks, followed by subtle notes of black truffle, orange peel, with medium-plus acidity and searing tannins elegantly draping the mouth with more saline and earthy notes rising on the long, elegant and mouth-filling finish. Drink 2026-2035, perhaps longer. 13.5% Abv. 93
