Blind tasting dinner. Expressive nos with lots of funk and farmyard, top notch. On the palate the lousy 1991 vintage cannot fully hide. A bit too acidic for a higher score. Nose 95, palate 92

We had a serious adventure last night. We had read about and decided to visit a French “private kitchen” (Cafe F39) run by a Hong Kong Chinese couple who lived in France for 30 years and returned to their home village in the countryside. The third floor of their village house is dedicated to serving a small number (no more than 12) diners. Two days advanced booking and the Chef will prepare pretty much any French dish you want. Fine French food in the countryside of Hong Kong…does it get any better!?
Our first red of the evening. We let her air out the old, leather-bound library books for 2+ hours...really started sipping nicely at 3+ hours. A dark ruby-red with a brown rim that screams "sip me now...or someone else will". Smokey, over-ripe berries on the nose with all sorts of thoughts swirling around our head, i.e. old library books, wet forest, prunes, mushrooms, dirty socks...the list fades into old and recent memories. Sophisticated, elegant, and rich, a bit chubby, great balance, medium-body, smooth tannins and pretty much everything you might want from a Left Bank Bordeaux. A winner from A to Z...stopping off at L for luvly, W for wonderful and a few other letters!!!

Another glorious sip via Coravin. Very veggie like on the nose and palate...super sous bois! Texture-like finish. Almost done after 3+ weeks!
