Bold red fruit, pepper spice and forest mushroom. Big on the nose. Dust, iron and earthy minerals. Could have been a bit fuller on the palate but still good.

The Savage Red has long been a favourite of mine and something that I know with confidence I can break out at any type of bbq or grilled meats dinner in the summertime with wine friends or innocenti alike.
This time however it felt like it had less body and was expressing a more elegant northern Rhône style of Syrah - also meaning that it’s tightly knit perfume is still some years of cellaring away from full expression. A very nice surprise and possibly a shift in style over the last few years?

Lovely, precise expressive and exotic nose with spicy red cherry and plum together with incense and dried herbs. Elegant and refined. Delicious. Lovely long finish - crunchy, peppery red fruit dusted with spice.
WSET notes:
Medium ruby.
Pronounced on the nose with violet, red cherry, red plum, dried herbs, incense, black pepper, clove, wet stone, cinnamon. Youthful.
Pronounced and dry on the palate. Medium bodied, high acidity, medium plus tannins, medium alcohol, long finish.
Can drink now but has potential for ageing.

This bottle has only a bitter aftertaste. Nothing else. Not great. Previous bottle was fab.

Pairing South African wines with grilled Gotland Lamb in Valleviken; 8/11/2023-8/16/2023: Part of a small South African line up that we enjoyed a long summer evening on the island of Gotland with some grilled meats.

Delicate and multilayered wine, a little flowery, long aftertaste. Nicely made, not far off northern Rhone style, granite soil. Worth its money.
