  • Krug Lover Dinner with Olivier Krug (Daniel Dal Ban 1876 (Tafelspitz) Düsseldorf): not blind
Side by side with the vintage 2008 (defective). Similar to the 2002 CdM, same concentration but less elegance. Easy to detect, some honey notes. , lemon peel. Fresh. 98

  • not blind, at Clos du Mesnil
Super fresh, lemon tarte, not the typical honey note yet. Unbelievable concentration. Even in this young stage great to drink. 97(99)

  • we’ve all been waiting for this bottle to drop for the legendary 2008 vintage. Disgorged after 6 years on lees and then aged another 6 years in bottle.

Everyone should wait longer. Hide it away. Keep it out of sight. Let it grow to its hopeful glory.

It’s a tightly wound ball of acid and reduction. The wine stayed that way for awhile. Since the bottle was consumed within the first 90 minutes it was hard to see if it’d open up more. I had some left in the glass to follow but it never quite opened up. Stayed really linear and citrus/acid driven into a long bright finish.

In retrospect we should have decanted the bottle to give it significantly more air. Next time next time
