Great bottle, replaced an over the hill Chambolle-Musigny and performed very well with duck. Leather, cellar, fennel, cherry, a little strawberry in the nose. Balsamic, licorice, tea, dark cherries and tar on the palate. Weight, intensity and good length. Great spot now.

I know, I know but who can resist the temptation after Javier's 2010 Barbaresco tasting? That's not me. Cork pulled in two parts. Initially reduced, needed two hours breathing. Nose of "botti" with memories of rotten roses, asphalt and butter pastries. Very cherry but at the same time austere and a bit veggie. On the palate it has density and showed savoury with good acidity. Short of tar and abundant of alcohol, I would prefer more character and length. Little dry charm but lacks elegance. Very in between Barolo (house speciality) and Barbaresco (terroir). Then, she or he? Suddenly it. In spite of that I really enjoyed it. However please consider that because this particular vintage, Pio Cesare can't make any better Barbaresco than this one. Awesome.

Beautiful deep garnet - more brown than red now. In fact this looks like a ten year old tawny port. Very floral nose of rose petals along with some menthol and tar. Mostly just fading secondary bramble fruit now with some smoky bacon fat in there as well. There's still plenty of tannic grip but then this is Barbaresco after all. This is the last of a six pack and I'm glad I caught this in a sweet spot as I suspect it's downhill from here.

Definitely decant for 2 hours. Big, rich, heady. Just the right amount of tannins.

Decent - decanted an hour - but in my opinion lackluster. Good fruit but a bit tepid and flat.
