  • Opened 2h early. My comments of October 2022 still stand. Very deep (opaque) colour and a good nose, as before together with lots of juicy fruit and complexity. Excellent balance and acidity. Drinking well. Good value. 89+

  • An old classic this wine, and one I haven't had in a long-time but on offer at Waitrose for £9 I thought why not. Loving the retro label and inside the bottle this is a pretty classic Yalumba/Barossa Shiraz. Fairly rich and ripe, but not OTT. Deep plum flavour. Fairly plush mouthfeel. Pretty enjoyable overall, and good value.

  • Immediate sweet and spicy fruit on the nose. The palate immediately offers plenty of rich, sweet, dark cherry, dark plum and blackberry fruit and skin with lots of vanilla from the oak plus attractive spice. Some chocolate notes (others have described ‘Black Forest Gateau’ and this is apt). The tannins are soft and integrated.
This is not a subtle wine but is terribly difficult to criticise - much easier to just savour and enjoy (with or without food). Great for occasions when you just want your guests to have a good time and enjoy what is in their glass (rather than over-analyse it).
