I bought this bottle from an unfamiliar château on the strength of the Nicolas Thienpont name on the label. It is made 100% from Merlot. I would not have guessed a high level of that grape because the wine showed much more freshness of fruit, minerality and tannic structure and less hedonism than I associate with it. It was already an enjoyable partner for saucisses de Toulouse and a stoemp (a vegetable mash dish from Brussels) but I felt a certain hardness still with the prospect of greater expressiveness down the road. Quite good for now.
