  • meeting the winemaker – Assiduous Wines: greenish yellow with medium body in the glass. the nose was a bit ripe with pears and pineapple with whiffs of bubblegum lipstick and wood. in the mouth it is ample and juicy, with a citric acidity that moderates the ripe notes. there is an agreeable viscosity to the texture with slightly nutty notes that give the wine depth. the finish is quite long.

it manages to be ripe and fresh at the same time, but in a somewhat angular manner that a bit of bottle age should round out.

13.6% AbV; full malolactic (and if i recall correctly, neutral oak)

  • Assiduous Wines (K&L Wine Merchant - Redwood City): Aromas of ripe soft pears, clean sweet crushed stones, little bit of dried wood, and a bit of dried honey comb wax.

On the palate was softly bitter yellow fruits and dried minerals. Fuller body but has great acidity to keep it in check, preventing the wine from becoming too heavy. The acidity actually allows the wine to stay fresh while having a fuller body.

  • Medium bodied, modern styling with traditional elements, short agglomerate cork (2-4yr lifespan).

Vibrant blend of tree and tropical fruit, generally underripe, with creamy malolactic elements. Fleshy. Youthful bitterness in long finish should wane with some cellaring but does not with air (followed 3 days). Judicious use of oak with an ethereal echo of burnt matchstick. Personally would want a little more acidic zip, but this leans more new world.

The agglomerate "drink now" cork selection is unfortunate - and odd alongside good quality wax. This is a wine that would benefit from 3-8 years in the cellar and the cork may not last that. I would open my next bottle around 2026.
