Purply ruby in colour. Cherry bakewell tart on the nose silky with good freshness and more bright cherry fruit yet with good freshness and lift. It is dry and well balanced. No cola notes and, moveover (thankfully)- no trace of smoke whatsoever. 13.3% ABV sealed with Diam 30. V enjoyable.

In my prior note I indicated patience would be rewarded with this wine…unfortunately I don’t have any! I really enjoyed the characteristics of this wine. It had depth, great bones and a foundation of dark fruit with some fine tannins on the back end. Not a typical Pinot profile. Wish I had more in the cellar to see this continue to develop and evolve.

I think this has a tremendous upside and will certainly benefit from additional time and age. You can tell it has the bones to lay down quite awhile. Savory dark fruit with a very unique back end. A drying, tannic sensation on the palate.

A touch reticent on the nose, nevertheless this deep, striking, savory, structured, complex, and thought-provoking Mendocino Ridge Pinot is a worthy expression of its site. The vineyard seems to be at an inflection point in '20 / '21, as the Drew's note their wines will be less constructed by clones and selections and more so by soil type, perhaps a straighter tap to the crux of pure MR terroir. This particular vintage of the Field Selection (the last?) is tighter than most have been, and it reminds me of the Mid-Slope, begging for time to fully unfurl. Having some knowledge of how incredibly well Drew's Pinot wines can age with some 15+ year old examples of the Weir's and company, I can't wait to see how these Faîte De Mer estate bottlings will fare in time. But while I wait, I don't mind a stubborn gem, which we have here and that can't hide its brilliance behind the dirt, tannin, and mineral structure that surround it. This will certainly outshine itself as it evolves and purifies with time. 93+ with a lot of + upside.
