  • We visited the Maysara biodynamic vineyard & tasting room in April 2012 and had a great experience there. Can still picture the steers that were roaming unimpeded among the vines.

    We were surprised to find this 2006 Jamsheed pinot in a local wine store (here in NJ) since Maysara doesn't seem to be widely distributed on the east coast. There are a lot of decidedly average pinots flooding the shelves these days however this is definitely not one of those.

    We had this last evening with maple walnut glazed chicken thighs and it paired perfectly. This wine really explodes on the palate with bold red berries and has a nice long, earthy finish. I've already found another local retailer (on wine-searcher.com) that has the 2009 Jamsheed and will definitely pick up another bottle or two to stow away.

  • This wine was a the end of its best drinking window, but still lovely. I had a soft nose and tanins, but there was still enough fruit and sructure to keep it interesting.
    The wine looks Violet colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Red Currant, Strawberry, and Fig. It tastes like Red Currant, and Strawberry. The body is Light. The wine has Silky texture. The wine finishes Medium.

  • Wow, what a pinot for the money. This one stands head and shoulders above many we have tasted at this price point or above. It blew us away and went perfect with the chicken dish that my wife made.
    The nose and palate were both extraordinary in complexity. The wine was mellow yet intense with a symphony of flavors.

  • Fruit forward lighter OR Pinot with good expression of berry, plum, cherry, with some balancing acid. Nice cassis on and candy funk on nose and palate. Went nicely with a Copper River Salmon, chantrelles, & a grilled cherry tomato & carmelized onion dish. Not my preferred Or Pinot style but a solid wine on a pop & pour. Improved as evening went on, so an hour decant would likley help.

    (Maysara Pinot Noir Jamsheed, McMinnville, Willamette Valley) Oregon has come a long way since 1965, when the late David Lett of Eyrie Vineyards taked out his first Pinot plantings in the deep, red-clay soils of Dundee Hills. Five more sub-AVAs of the Willamette Valley have been added since then. Perhaps the most unique, McMinnville, is a good 20 miles southwest of the Dundee Hills, where slightly drier weather and brighter days are offset by cooler nights and significantly shallower soils. The biodynamically farmed Maysara Jamsheed displays this side of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir; more aggressive, slightly steelier in acid, and more structured in tanning and glycerol than the pretty, fruit-driven Dundee wines of old. Yet this is still a cold-climate Oregonian, sharing the plump, juicy, wild-berry traits of the finest Willamette Valley Pinots. McMinnville's meager soils translate to a more pronounced anise and clove-like spiciness on the nose. The palate tends toward peppermint, green leaf, and herbs, intertwined with muscular tannins and almost sweet, marionberry-jam-like flavors. Hot Picks
