  • Until recently I was not aware that there were more owners of the Halenberg than Emrich-Schönleber and Schäfer-Fröhlich. Their wines I know rather well, but I had never heard of Marcus Hees, the “the newcomer of the year 2019″ in the words of Robert Parker. I tasted many Hees' rieslings of alll quality levels over the last weeks and I must confess that I am pretty impressed by them. No, it is not a competitor (yet) to the very top of the Nahe, but it is good. The Halenberg is off-dry, already looking it had matured already for a couple of years. Not driven to super acidity or minerality it is more like the average house friend: beloved by all, no sharp edges, but not without character. I do not think long maturing would benefit this wine - it is very accesible already -, but who knows. High overall quality; good O/P range.
