The pretty, subdued nose features lilac, violet, strawberry, blood orange, red plum, Black Mission fig, and potting soil. Another medium bodied wine from Meeker, the acid is very bright and initially dominates the dense tannin. Together, they create a thick coating on the palate. Flavor-wise it’s quite floral with crunchy red fruit, coarse black pepper, and small doses of dried herb and tomato leaf. This is almost painfully young as the tannins get super coarse creating a sandpaper-like texture that brings out some black tea. The acid oscillates over time between dominating the tannins and being unable to stand to them, creating some imbalance. Several hours in the decanter did help with integration, suggesting some backwardness that I hope time will right. Decanting also brought the lactic acid out, introducing a ton of soft vanilla that detracts from the fruit, which nonetheless sweetened in an appealing way. The following day, however, it was tarter, making it a difficult wine to judge.
