2015 Produttori & Friends (Nella Kitchen & Bar, Los Olivos, CA): A killer bottle displaying a thrilling array of impressive powers. Evocative nose of tar, licorice, dark fruit and spice. Good intensity, with ample acid and a nice thread of minerality. Should hold for another decade I'd think.

A lost Friday afternoon gathering – Cristal, DP, Giacosa, Produttori and etc. (Black Salt, Washington DC): This particular bottle remains opaque. Incredibly youthful expressive nose displaying intense black and red fruit, blackberry, dry cherry, cherry compote, fruitcake, tar, anise, leather, sap, dark spices and earth. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of intense black and red fruit, rich and chewy, bright acidity, earthy mineral, still showing noticeable tannins and a long concentrated black fruit driven finish with leather and tar at the end. This still displays so much power and youth.

Light cola, brown rim. Rugged nose: rubber, celery salt and mint. Big tannin - strong - good viscosity. Slightly dirty finish. By the end of the evening some depth emerged and became more complete. Initially 88 - 92 by end of evening.

Decanted for 5 hours then put back in the bottle for dinner. Drunk alongside the 82 and 89
A more youthful color than the 82. Tar, dark cherry, violet more than roses on the nose, with some ferrous notes. Early on pretty inwardly turned, with a linearity chiseled feel to it. Firm and clippers don't he back end. A couple hours later it opened and gained some breadth on the palate. Still with the finer lines of Asili but gained some clarity and dimension. Still not a terrific bottle of it, but much better than at first look.

1978 Piemonte Dinner Showcasing Produttori Crus (Flour + Water, San Francisco): Ruby. Immediately riper aromas than the normale with prominent cherry and warm earth. Wonderful mix of soil, spice, and gently sweet red fruit with some mint entering later. At a perfect point of maturity with silky feel and outstanding length. I could still see this developing further with more tertiary notes.

(Produttori del Barbaresco Asili) It was a touch tight upon opening but as typical with Produttori at any age it slowly unwound and eventually yielded a lovely bottle of Barbaresco. Nose of chestnut, autumn scents, black cherry, sandalwood and some old barrel spice. Lovely dusty yet pure aromas. I love the nose of old Produttori. Palate is concentrated and ripe but still tight with lovely dark black cherry flavors and some nice hot spices. Southern fried Barbaresco anybody? Great inner mouth aromas with a chestnut, cedar, old barrel flavor and rich 1978 cherry fruit. This still needs about ten years or four more hours in the decanter. But all in all a lovely wine with great upside.
