Gutes Trinkfenster erwischt.

  • A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The grapes are first cold-soaked for five days, then fermented spontaneously and macerated with the skins for two weeks. Aged in new barriques. 13% alcohol, 1,8 g/l residual sugar and 6,5 g/l acidity.

Dense, fully opaque blackish-red color. The nose feels dark-toned and toasty with opulent aromas of black cherries and blackcurrants, some woody notes of savory oak spice, a little bit of dried herbs, light sweeter notes of wizened dark fruits, a hint of licorice, a touch of smoke and a whiff of milk chocolate. The wine feels dry, dense and moderately extracted yet pretty crunchy on the palate with a medium-to-moderately full body and intense flavors of fresh blackcurrants, some woody tones, a little bit of ferrous blood, light notes of crowberries and brambly black raspberries, a hint of herby greenness and a touch of sour cherry bitterness. The wine is high in acidity with rather assertive and grippy tannins. The finish is dry, grippy and quite woody with a long aftertaste of blackcurrants and crowberries, some ferrous notes of blood, a little bit of sweet, toasty oak spice, light licorice root tones, a hint of brambly black raspberry and a leafy touch of herbaceous Cab character.

A surprisingly serious and structure-driven Bordeaux blend with a nice cool-climate feel. The overall feel is a bit too oaky for my preference and I think less new oak would yield a more balanced and harmonious wine, but as the wine seems to be built to age, it is entirely likely that the wine can integrate those woody tones better with enough age. Pretty good stuff with some upside. Priced according to its quality at 25,50€.
