Not sure what to call this, but it isn't Kabinett. On a purely qualitative basis it is a delicious wine, but in aromatic and flavor profile it is an electric botrytis Auslese. The ripe, tropical fruit, heady spice and palate richness all evoke Auslese. This is certainly an artifact of the vintage, but if you are looking for Kabinett, do not look here. Serve this after the meal with cheese, or just sip it on its own as dessert.

Saturday @ Baker's Mill; 6/6/2010-6/7/2010 (Baker's Mill - Appomattox, VA): Classic Mosel nose of apple cores, crushed stone, diesel, and a tropical fruit melange. Very rich riesling that was able to stay balanced by its firm acidity. Drinking very well, but would be interested to see how this one evolves. Only 8.5% ABV! Love it.

Nose was expressive with really ripe peach, pineapple, petrol, and citrus fruit. On the palate there was a touch of sweetness, but much less than you would expect from the nose, with more tropical fruit, petrol, and a little minerality toward the end. Good balance overall.

Wine-Soaked Weekend at Baker's Mill (Baker's Mill - Appomattox, VA): golden colored. pineapples explode on the nose with mango, gasoline and limes. i love the balance of this wine: the richness, the sweetness, the freshness, the lively and playful fruit and the minerality. it's got everything i love in a mosel riesling in all the right amounts.

Consistent with prior notes. Great acidity, mouthwatering finish of apple and melon.
