  Received as a gift from António. This is my first experience with the Vinhão grape. And wow, is this an interesting grape. Vinhão is also known as Sousão. This red is inky black. This is one of the darkest wines I've ever seen. It actually stains the glass. The nose is beautiful and perfumey. Almost reminds me of potpourri, but with fantastic barnyard funk. On the palate, this wine is sharp. Incredible and intense mouth puckering acidity. This reminds me of bing cherry, cranberry and tart strawberry. This makes your mouth pucker, almost like licking a lemon. The acidity is unworldly. Really firm tannins. This is a wine that is made for food. This was a truly unique wine. A fantastic experience. If you want to try something that is like nothing you've ever tasted before, you need to try this wine. Fantastic way to start the weekend.
