Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 88.2 points

  • First half, drunk immediately after opening over an hour: Red fruits including some slightly sour redcurrant and creamily textured raspberry, with an edge of smoky notes. Apparently some carbon dioxide in the mouth, and high acidity. Delicious, but not quite coherent on this occasion. Look forward to the second half. Perhaps the Zalto burgundy glass was not the right one.

Second half, slightly cooler, Zalto universal glass: Better than first half, more complete and coherent. More strawberries, the smoke is rather spices (I forgot which), and it is juicy and well-structured. Just really tasty.

Frutos rojos, violetas, mineral, notas herbáceas, fluido, fresco, sedoso, sabroso, agradable y persistente.

  • Nose was suprising to me, more like a mix of grenache from cooler climate and pinot noir than the usual mencia character with light smokiness. I had to check the bottle to make sure I was not mistaken. Very open character, raspberries, wet forest, pinot like. Tadte is juicy, little bit fizzy, good acidity. Didnt really analyse it so this is the best review I can make.

  • Nice flirty scent of red berries, maybe lacking a bit in body and aftertaste. Better last vintage?

  • A private lunch (Café Parlotte, Amsterdam, NL): 100% Mencia, gentle maceration for 2 months, whole bunch fermentation, aged for 12 months in neutral French oak (500 litre barrels). Characteristic and pure, bright red fruit, spicy minerality from the schist / granite / quartz soils, floral lift from the stems, energetic and crisp, lemon tart on the grippy finish. Lovely now, even better in 12-24 months.
