Delicious wine. Rustic, soulful, and super f***ing tasty. Medium bodied, fruit driven, I'd say strawberry rhubarb pie that's been baked in a wood fire oven. Not overly extracted but very approachable. Fresh with a nice backbone of acidity and just enough tannins to hold up to hearty dishes but easy enough to drink a little chilled to quench your thirst. Bottle disappeared in no time. Is this the most complex or age worthy wine? No, but in terms of pure pleasure and food friendliness this is a 99 point wine.
Tastes exactly like you would hope a rustic Italian wine from a tiny organic estate facing the Adriatic would.
Drank this with short ribs I braised in cheap 3 day old montepulciano, lots of thyme and garlic and fried polenta. Perfect pairing. Cleanses the palate and gets you ready for another bite. When you eat a piece of caramelized garlic and wash it down with this you are in food/wine pairing heaven.
From Kermit Lynch (and spot on): "This red, made from the local Montepulciano grape, is aged in tank and bottle to refine its pleasantly rustic personality. Dark bitter cherry, rosemary, and licorice root infuse the rounded, medium-bodied palate. Its tannins are soft, and an autumnal feel will make it a perfect accompaniment to savory winter dishes that include root vegetables."
