  • Welp. Now I’ve seen everything. This curious offer consists of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Pinot Noir, and 14% Petit Sirah. Blending Cabernet with Pinot Noir? That’s crazy! I would imagine a bold cab would completely drown out a delicate pinot but… somehow, they pulled it off. This is a wild wine, and the name “Raucous” is certainly well-earned!

    Deep ruby with an inky black core, this wine is rather aromatic, offering a pronounced and developing nose of red and black fruits (namely a blend of fresh and ripe red cherry, ripe red raspberry, black plum and blueberry) mixed with cassis, potting soil, leather and a touch of black pepper. Upon sipping, one meets a dry, medium-bodied wine with grippy high acid, medium-high tannins, and high alcohol. The attack offers some cassis, which is soon followed up by an intense midpalate that is a complex mix of ripe red raspberry, red and black plum, blueberry and ripe red cherry overlaying a substrate of cocoa, earth and a smidge of black pepper and oaky vanilla. The finish is moderately long, starting off with red raspberry, which is soon overtaken by a plum that lingers for quite some time, leaving behind an acidic and tannic echo.

    There is a lot here hitting you all at once, and it is very, very fruity. The wine’s multiple components combine to give a plethora of aromas and flavors to pick apart. Astonishingly, the red fruits from the Pinot Noir are not drowned out by the dark fruits of the Cabernet and Petit Sirah, as they instead live in harmony to offer a rather interesting wine. One could drink this now, but it has potential for future ageing; the fruit is intense and complex, so giving it some time to develop tertiary flavors would further add to complexity without sacrificing too much of the fruit.
