An Unexpected Good Day; 6/24/2010-6/25/2010 (Universal and Asia Grand): The 4th wine of the day and still showing some signs of nuts! Not sure why. Maybe it’s the day. However, this showed good potential with structure, stuffing and juicy. Although still not as ready as the other 90s , this probably might turn out better when at its peak. Some bbq meatiness but I thought I got some brambly florals as well. I had guessed a volnay or pommard knowing it was a Cote de Beaune but would have guessed a NSG at first, something straddling in between. Points on potential here.

Popped by Uncle L at Extra Space. A nice wine, but rather surprisingly stern for a 2002. Nose showed nice Beaune characteristics, with meaty bacon, earthy truffles, some dried flowers and a nice interplay of bright red fruit scents with sweeter, darker fruit accents. The palate was rather marked by fine-grained, but teeth-coating tannins, which gave it a rather tight feel. There was nice reddish fruit, some dark cherries, plenty of spice and some fresh, almost Japanese cucumber like notes, all tied together with a juicy balance. Finish had a little herbacious lilt to it, along with black tea, a twist of bramble and plenty of spiciness at the tail-end. Plenty of quality here, quite enjoyable, but it really does deserve a lot more time in the cellar.
