  • No formal notes, but this really is amazing juice for the price... I should have bought 6 of these 3 liters at the price. Glad I let this one sit in the cellar for 3+ years, as it had smoothed out considerably, and was drinking very elegantly for the price. Nice structure and acid throughout, with a pleasing earthy note to it. Tastes like a Bordeaux. Fantastic stuff, and too bad it's my last bottle.

  • Consumed by 10 people on a birthday. Tasting note taken after 7 hours open, and it has improved this whole while. Considering this wine is basically $5 a bottle, it is actually quite fine juice. Perhaps not as good as the 1999 (that I still have one 3L left of), but that may just be due to its age (2004 should be a better year in the Veneto, though). Right after opening there was very distinctive buttered popcorn that concerned me, but after the hours open that entirely went away. The nose is quite pleasant, showing frozen raspberries and fresh blackberries; very ripe overall. The mouthfeel is rather plush, with ripe fruit. Finishes actually quite firm and tannic, without much fruit. Considering the way the 1999 was a few months back, I expect this to improve over the next 3 or so years (the 1999 was probably too soft). Really, this is one of the best QPR wines out there, and it seems to me people mark it down because they expect a $20 double magnum from Trader Joe's to taste very average... it's actually quite structured juice (and I too am probably dinging it a point for what it is). I will seriously buy several more and let them age a bit... just a bit too tannic right now. I am boggled how this wine is imported at this price, considering the weak dollar, and cost of the bottle alone.
