Second time trying this vintage and it’s apex drinking. Good evolution, still youngish fruit and acidity but very well integrated with the oak and tannins. Won’t get much better and I wouldn’t be cellaring for much more but this is impressive for the vintage

Classic left-bank style with balanced oak, bell pepper, full body of black fruits, lengthy finish. Good example from a challenging vintage for Left Bank.

Another beautiful showing from this wine and vintage. So structured and integrated, exhibiting melted tannin, velvety textures, and a singed, earthy, almost feral complexity to the cassis and dark fruit flavor profile. This is as good as the last bottle I had in March and I anticipate it will remain for another five years, at least.

The 1998 Langoa Barton is one of my favorite vintages from this château, and arguably one of the years when Langoa actually outperforms Léoville. Offering up rich aromas of cassis and plummy fruit mingled with cigar ash and loamy soil, along with just a touch of grilled meats that dissipate in the decanter, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with ripe tannins and an ample core of fruit. Unusually seamless and complete, this is a compelling Langoa that demonstrates that there are terrific wines in 1998 in the Médoc, as well as in the Graves and on the right bank.

Firm, structured, strict and bright, with loads of crisp, crunchy red berries and nuances of forest leaf, herbs, tobacco, peppery spice and cigar box. This is quite classic and stoic in nature and will appeal to some tasters more than others.
