  • My brother blinded some of us family members on this. We knew he picked it up at a grocery store (Ralphs), so we knew it was not likely a boutique wine and were expecting some plonk. However, this was pretty decent and showed some interesting character, with good balance and good fruit. Everyone was in the new world with this, and mostly in the Bordeaux varietal camp, some guessing Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. I picked up jalapeno popper notes on the nose, so I was thinking Cab Sauv at first, but not quite. My guess was Bordeaux blend, California Central Coast, 2021 vintage, $20 price point. My wife correctly guessed Cab Franc! Was surprised on the reveal, but it made sense. Nice wine for the price, around $12 after the 6-bottle Ralphs 30% discount.
