  • Daou's 2021 Micho is an opaque crimson blend of 54% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc, aged for 21 months in French oak (80% new). Sampled over a three-hour period from a bottle that had been popped and poured, it fully blossoms after the first 90 minutes to reveal an aromatic array of ripe plums, dark bramble fruits, allspice, licorice and tobacco. Full-bodied, low-to-medium in acidity and with well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.5%), it delivers ripe flavors that mirror the aromas. Although the wine's plentiful sweet tannins are well-assimilated, the oak is quite dominant and will require some additional cellar time in order to become subservient to the other flavors. Dense on the mid-palate and medium in length on the oaky finish, this is a New World Bordeaux blend that pushes the envelope when is comes to ripeness and wood. Drink 2026-2036.
