Very big, almost Shiraz-like. Needless to say, I looked at the alcohol and read 16%. Still, a crowd-pleaser for under $30 that has held on after 15 years of proper storage. The 2004 was a bit more subtle and had some complexity.

Color: Deep purple. Nose: Powerful blackberry fruit with that characteristic Syrah smell reminiscent of bacon fat flavored acetone. Flavor: Smooth mouthfeel, good blackberry, licorice and tar structure but has way too much vanilla/coconut. A bit hot in throat. Finishes with bitterness and gobs of vanilla extract on the tongue for a long time.

Very nice syrah. Full fruit, with notes of dark berries & bramble fruit.
