Much much better than I remember, maybe the last 3 1/2 years laying down really did this wine some good, it was much more developed, rounder, softer and willing to open itself to me and share it's depth of character. Initial nose was still vegetal but opened in less than an hr to a very pleasing aromatic bouquet of red rip fruit, on the pallet is was mouth coating, rewarding and smooth. About a 30 second linger on taste and not very complex or would have scored better, however for the price and vintage I would love it if I had more, I guess we'll just have to see how the '07 is coming along.

Had a few of these vintages since their release, don't think this is one of the stronger...but could be as I am imbibing later than most I've had. I'd say this wine is best consumed on the younger side. I was experimenting a little with holding it, but as I suspected, the Bonarda isn't particularly a long-lived grape variety. The wine seems a lot weaker than in the past samplings, pretty faded overall The licorice element sticks out like a non-integrated sore thumb. It's drinkable at this point, but really lacks the WOW factor I remember. Not the pairing I'd hoped for with lamb, but showed a little better with chocolate. We had an orange infused Lindt which was good. Then we tried the Lindt sea salt dark chocolate, and the combination with this wine gave an interesting mushroom/truffle effect.

Big, new world. full bodied. Licorice, graphite, dark fruit. The bottle is too big and heavy. We cannot afford to ship these heavy bottles around the world.

I was actually more impressed by the thickness & heaviness of the bottle than by the wine itself. Nose has light fruit and vanilla with subtle blacktop and charcoal aromas . Flavors are more notable: meaty as well as sweet, chewy, ripe berries with leather and tobacco notes ... nice overall but somewhat unbalanced. Good, smooth finish but not very memorable; maybe past its prime? Drinks well by itself but tastes better with cheese.

(Tikal Patrioto, Mendoza) A flashy blend of 60% Bonarda and 40% Malbec, from a label named after Ernesto Catena’s son, it offers aromas of blueberry, rhubarb, Orange Pekoe tea leaf, strawberry leaf, and strawberry jam. The wine is round and opulent, with sweet, ripe berry fruit; supple oak tannins; and a long, ripe fruit finish. Special Report: Argentina
