  • Mouthcoatingly full-fruited with exotic red plum, wild raspberry, and an herbal/savory undertone. But it plays that same note the whole time. Very tasty in a straightforward way.

  • Real dusty, ripe , complex fruit. Good acidity and medium density. Over a few nights open this gets darker and richer while becoming less flamboyant. Here I am on night four and its not showing oxidation. Much more wild than the focused Buchignani Carignan. I hope they keep getting this fruit. Going to rest my other bottle a coupla-few.

  • Decanted 60+ minutes. Deep inky ruby in color. Very fragrant nose. Wild dark currants, squid ink, wild blueberries, sweet cigar box, and a mild dash of American oak driven spices. If I didn't know better, I would peg this as a Syrah from the nose.

Medium bodied with high acidity. Palate goes in a different direction - blueberries, blackberries, vanilla, sweet ceder, a little bit of sweet tobacco. On the second glass, I get a burst of violets and blossoms on the palate right before the finish. Moderate amount of chewy velvety tannins - way less than I expect from a Carignane. Long herbal finish starts with a burst of dark currants. Coffee, graphite, and black pepper follow fruit.

I do not expect a Carignane to have this many layers and this level of depth. I was going in to this wine with low expectations due to the many misses from the ATP shipments last year. Instead, I am pleasantly surprised and looking forward to trying the other two bottles from this shipment.
