Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • A special bottling of just 450 bottles (100% Grenache) in honor of the late proprietor of Blackberry Farm in Tennessee. Decanted 2 1/2 hours earlier. Bright ruby/purple. Some VA, pine, and vibrant red fruit. Perfect medium weight with succulent yet exceedingly elegant black raspberry, citrus, outstanding acidity, and a subtle hint of soil. Light tannins, spicy finish. The purity and delicacy made me utter the R word-Rayas. Unlike the larger scaled Clos Erasmus wines I’ve tasted before, and just fantastic for capturing the essence of Grenache without any of the heaviness that sometimes goes along with old vine versions of this grape. This is not built for the long term but is pretty special now.

More blue fruit, woodsmoke, and soil the next day with more tannic presence. My conclusion is unchanged though; this is a gorgeous wine.
